Non-Negotiables for GHSGT Preparation: Grades K-12

 

1)                 WHO…....Identify a key person to spearhead the emphasis on test score improvement

 

2)                 WHAT….Teach the mandated GPS standards

3)                 WHEN….Pace units so all standards are taught by test time

4)                 HOW…...Utilize effective instructional strategies

5)                 Incorporate standard test item format into a portion of all teacher made tests

6)                 Focus on information processing skills DAILY (maps, charts, tables, graphs, reading passages, diagrams, etc.)

 

7)                 Expect accountability at every grade level for every subject area (including science and social studies at the elementary level)

 

8)                 Be aware of the foundation being built for the GHSGT at every grade level

9)                 Identify at risk students early and prescribe targeted intervention and mentoring based on test data and teacher observation

 

10)            Place strongest teachers in high school courses most heavily tested on the GHSGT (especially the review course)

 

11)            Bring parents into the process early

12)            Develop a systematic review process

13)            Inspect what you expect – routine administrator monitoring of instruction with feedback for improvement

 

14)            Share what works
