Routes to Certification in Georgia
Traditional Routes - Obtaining a Georgia certificate by completing a state-approved educator preparation program, usually at a college or university before you are hired as a teacher.
Alternative Routes - Obtaining a Georgia certificate while you work as an educator.
Step 1.  Meet the miminum requirements.
  • Hold a bachelor's degree or higher from a state-approved college or university.
  • Pass or exempt the GACE Basic Skills assessment.
  • Pass the GACE content assessment in the field you are hired to teach.
Step 2.  Get hired and pass a criminal background check.
Step 3.  Enroll in and complete a state-approved non-traditional teacher preparation program.
